February is almost over, but it's feeling like early summer here in Texas. It has been unusually warm in Austin and making me think about the months ahead. I have no doubt that the days will fly by as I continue finishing up my class to sit for the IBCLC exam later this year. The class I'm enrolled in has been taking up most of my time. Between clinical hours, schoolwork, and charting, I don't have much time left for anything other than family. Here's what I've been into lately.
1. Cold Shoulder Tops
While bare shoulders have been everywhere for months now, many styles aren't right for me. Why? Well because strapless bras are kind of a joke when you're top heavy. Luckily I've found a number of cold shoulder tops that hide bra straps, but still let me enjoy the trend. Pro tip: these would be perfect for nursing moms as well: just layer a stretchy camisole or nursing tank underneath and you're ready to breastfeed or pump in public. Here are some of my favorites. 2. Calmer, Easier, Happier Parenting
My friend Adriana of Jack's Mom in Austin did a review of this parenting book on her Facebook Live series, The Lunchbox, recently and it sounds like something that would help me. I've found myself really perplexed at how to deal with my toddler lately. At almost 3, he is as different from his brother as it gets. Calmer, Easier, Happier Parenting by Noel Janis-Norton goes beyond descriptive praise and really lines up with what I believe is the best way to parent my kiddos. Here's hoping it helps all of us! PS - I was a guest on The Lunchbox where Adriana and I chatted about breastfeeding and answered questions live. You can check it out on Jack's Mom in Austin.
3. Statement Earrings
The perfect accessory for the tops mentioned above, these are best worn when little hands aren't going to be around to pull the. I rocked a pair of pink tassel earrings during a Valentines Day lunch with Hubs. I think they're great to dress up my every day uniform of jeans and a t-shirt or to add to a flirty date night outfit. Here are some of my favorites.
Did I mention I was a little stressed about balancing everything? I've been making good use of our garden tub by taking at least one bath a week. Sometimes I have a fun bath bomb or bath salts in there, other times it's just good ol' plain epsom salt. I've learned that I take my bath water VERY hot, but it feels amazing! It's been a great way for me to relax, especially if I time it right and take one just before bed. Speaking of balancing it all, I was recently featured by Tineke of Working Mommy Abroad for her "I Don't Know How She Does It" series. You can read the entire interview over there and figure out just exactly how I manage to do what I do.
