Hi there. I'm Naya. I work full time away from home by day and am a full time mom by night. I'm slowly becoming a runner, I'm a Certified Lactation Educator and Counselor, and I'm working towards becoming a Lactation Consultant and sitting for the IBCLC exam. I help facilitate a local weekly breastfeeding group and am available to teach breastfeeding classes.
D is my wonderfully supportive partner in life. We've been married since 2005 and have been together since 2001. D is American, I am South Asian. Together we made a wonderful little masala baby boy I refer to as E. It's very important to me that E is exposed to his Indian heritage from an early age.
This blog was born as Glow Baby Glow in April 2011. I wrote about things I did for myself post baby so I didn't end up on "What Not to Wear." Then I realized that a trip to NYC, a makeover, and $5000 for a new wardrobe didn't seem too bad for a bit of televised public humiliation. I decided to keep writing despite anyway.
One late July 2011 evening, after telling a friend on Twitter how strongly I felt about supporting breastfeeding moms nurse in public, Glow Baby Glow morphed into Lactivist in Louboutins. This blog mixes (breast) milk with makeup, cosleeping with clothes, shoes with shitty diapers... you get the idea. I try hard to balance the mommyhood/breastfeeding stuff with the fluffy stuff. Sometimes it leans one way or the other.
E and I had a very difficult start to breastfeeding. We worked really hard to establish our relationship. To me, breastfeeding became something more than just me feeding my child. It is something I feel very passionately about, especially supporting moms going through their difficult times. E and I nursed for 21 months and 9 days, until he decided he was done. I never thought I'd be the mom who nursed a toddler, but here I am wishing he'd gone just a little bit longer.
