Me Time

Tonight I was able to get a few hours to myself. I went to the mall for a local Fashion's Night Out event. There were gift bags and special deals throughout the mall, but I didn't partake in too many. I followed up the mall with stops at Ulta and DSW where I cashed in frenzy cards and rewards certificates to get a pair of riding boots. It was nice having some time to myself, but I definitely missed the kiddo and the husband. At one point, I heard a baby coo and shriek the way E does and I thought my husband had brought him to the mall!

I think it's really important for a mom to have some time for herself. It's crucial to cultivate hobbies, whether they have to do with your family or not. Even though I work out of the home, I don't count that as me time since I don't get to do what I want to do. When I heard that our local mall was having an even for Fashion's Night Out, I knew I had to go even if it was by myself. See, I love shopping. Even if it's not for me, I love it. The thrill of looking for that one item, scouring through racks, and then finally finding exactly what you were looking for. I can totally see why people get addicted to shopping and rack up insane credit card debt. Some of my friends hate it, and that's fine. That's why they ask me to go with them ;-) I usually have coupons too. Paying full price is something I don't want to do too often.

Starting next week, I'm going to be having weekly me time. I'm starting up belly dancing lessons again! I had been dancing for 2 years before E was born. In fact, I was attending right up until two weeks before his birth. I only stopped because classes would go on hiatus from Thanksgiving until after the New Year. I even performed with my troupe six and a half months pregnant. I fully believe that belly dance (along with 22 weeks of prenatal yoga) helped me deliver E quickly and naturally. I will be dancing with a new instructor and troupe, so I'm a little nervous. It's good nervous energy!

Hmm... if only there was some way to add some of this stuff to my resume. It would read natural birther, nursing mom, flash mobber, belly dancer, shopper extraordinaire. What do you do for your me time? What are some of your hobbies?

Here are a few things that caught my eye this week:

These are the riding boots I got tonight. I can't wait for the weather to cool off so I can wear them.

One of my favorite blogs, Outblush, posted these Mama Merit Badges earlier this week. What mom wouldn't love these?? They even have one for dads!

While at Sephora, I came across this stunning blue eyeshadow from NARS. Outremer is not nearly as pigmented as it looks in the case. On first swipe, it was actually a smokey blue. I didn't play around with it much, mostly because I didn't want to fall in love with a $23 eyeshadow. The cobalt blue color is just gorgeous and one of fall's hottest colors.

I randomly came across this bow tie top on Old Navy's website. It's really cute and can be work appropriate with a cardigan. It's easy to take it from the office to a night out by switching out slacks for a great pair of dark trouser jeans or lighter flares if you want to play up it's '70s vibe. It's pretty versatile for $24 and comes in a variety of prints and solids.

That top led me to this sheer chiffon blouse also from Old Navy. It definitely has more of a casual hippie chic vibe than the last top. Again, for $24 you can do a lot with it!

One of my favorite belly dance videos - Ansuya of Belly Dance Superstars dancing to Gamal Goma's Sahra Saidi.

In case you haven't had a chance to read my last post, I'm looking for ways to get E to sleep. Enjoy your weekend!!

The End?
