My Favorite Posts of 2016 & 2017 Goals

My Favorite Posts of 2016 & 2017 Goals

As 2016 winds down, I thought I'd take a few minutes to share my favorite posts of the year. 2016 wasn't the easiest of years: a bump on the road to becoming an IBCLC and health issues seemed to rule the year. There were definitely some great moments: I breastfed my baby for over 2 years, I was invited to speak at MommyCon Austin and have since started doing more speaking within my community, and I can finally see a light at the end of this journey to become a lactation consultant. Pssst, if you life in Austin and want to talk to me about this, please contact me! Here are my favorite posts of 2016. I've added a little extra about each post and why they're special to me.

The post that spawned an invitation to speak at MommyCon! Postpartum sex is not spoken about very openly, especially for breastfeeding moms.

Getting back into the style groove postpartum can be a real challenge. That's part of why I share breastfeeding friendly clothing I find. I put this post together with a few simple tips on taking a step towards figuring out style after baby. If you're not ready for that right now, no worries. Pin or bookmark it and come back to it when you are.

One of my favorite posts of the year was written from my own experience of pumping at work for 15 months. It was definitely a challenge, but so worth it. I especially love this post because it includes a free printable checklist! I was able to develop my experience and knowledge into a successful back to work breastfeeding class when I lived in DFW. I am excited to start teaching it once again here in Austin!

2016 brought an end to breastfeeding my youngest. It was also an end to breastfeeding for me. The whole weaning process was bittersweet, I can honestly say that I didn't push for it. Now that breastfeeding is over, I'm excited to live in world of shift dresses and not having to layer in the summer!

I tried something new this year for National Breastfeeding Month - I held an Instagram Photo Contest! I loved seeing everyone's interpretations of the prompts.

I reached out to some wonderful mamas I know and asked them to share their breastfeeding stories. There's something very powerful about reading another woman's experience, especially if your journey wasn't the easiest.

2017 Goals

Blogging

One of my main goals for 2017 is to be more consistent. Time is definitely a commodity as I work to finish clinical hours and schooling to sit for the IBCLC exam, but blogging once a week is my current goal. I also want to stay true to my voice: focus on breastfeeding friendly style, share more about motherhood now that I'm out of the baby years, and continue to post evidence-based information on breastfeeding. If there's something you'd like me to write about, let me know! I'm happy to hear any input.

Personal

I've never been a "new year, new me" kinda girl. Now that I'm in my mid 30s, I'm realizing that I am pretty awesome and don't want to revamp my whole life. That being said, my word for 2017 is intention. I want to be deliberate with my actions, my energy, and my time. I'm free to adapt that as I see fit, based on what is going on.

Do you have a word or any goals for 2017? Share them with me in the comments!
