Friday Favorites: Clueless

It's another Friday night at our house. E is down for the night and the husband and I are sitting around watching TV. Lo and behold, one of my favorite movies EVER is on - Clueless. I first saw it when I was 14 and have seen it probably a hundred times since then. My sister and I can recite entire dialogues from it. Plus it has a young Paul Rudd in it!

I remember seeing it at the theater when it first came out and thinking how cool Cher Horowitz was with her computer program that helped her pick out what to wear each morning. I wished I had one back then and I definitely wish I had one now!! I think more than the program, I'd kill for her closet and closet organization. Hmm... I just wrote about closet organization. I think I'm officially old.

The styling in the movie is fantastic. Lots of 90s trends including faux fur, unique hats, and preppy vs grunge looks. Some of my favorite outfits in the movie are worn by Amber, because they're so far out and costumey. A few of the looks from the movie would even carry over and be perfectly acceptable even today. I think I particularly identify with Tai's clothing in the movie. Even though she gets a makeover from Cher and Dionne, she still maintains her own personal style.

What's one of your favorite movies?

Everything Zen

I have never been an athlete. I did play field hockey for years and years (all of middle school and high school), but I wasn't very good. Other than mandatory gym classes required, I didn't do much during college. That stayed with me through most of my adult life. My husband and I had a gym membership for a while and it would be great when we would go, but it was hard. I'm not a morning person, so we would typically go after work and be exhausted.

That's my pregnant belly at 32 weeks!

When I found out I was pregnant, I knew I had to get my act together and start getting into shape. As a first time mom, I had heard the horrors of marathon labors and wanted to be prepared. I also needed a way to unwind after work. Since being pregnant is not a good time to start a new fitness program, I knew whatever I did would have to be very low impact. That's when a friend told me about prenatal yoga.

Once I was through my first trimester, I started taking prenatal yoga classes with a fantastic yogini - The Urban Poser. Every Monday night, I would drive to our local birth center and chiropractor's office for prenatal yoga. For the next hour and a half, I would relax. Stretching felt great, and the poses were modified to accommodate growing bellies. I was also taught different types of breathing and focusing techniques. Most helpful to me were the Birthing Breath, which helped me through contractions and deliver E quickly and safely. I can't recommend prenatal yoga enough to any moms-to-be. Just make sure that your instructor knows what she's doing as it is very easy for pregnant ladies to over stretch/overextend thanks to the hormone relaxin.

If you don't have a qualified instructor near you, check out these free podcasts from Mamaste Yoga.

My First Mothers Day

I always swore that Mothers Day was a holiday created by card companies and chocolate makers without any significant meaning. Then I become a mother. I really enjoyed my first mothers day. My husband D went out of his way to make sure I had a fantastic weekend, not just a great day.

I was able to spend some time on Saturday with two good mom friends, The Llama Mama and KP, Hair Dresser Extraodinaire. The three of us took Bradley birthing class together and kept in touch after it ended. We saw a movie and then enjoyed the beautiful night sitting outside at a restaurant. I didn't get home until 12:45am! I haven't been out that late in over a year! We talked about motherhood and our babies and everything else. It was fantastic! The rest of the weekend consisted of snuggles, makeup, and bacon pancakes. It couldn't have been more perfect.

The past five months (holy crap, E is 5 months old tomorrow!) have been a wild ride. I have experienced my highest highs and my lowest lows. I have wanted to be a mom since I was a little girl, and I am having the time of my life. If this is motherhood, bring it on. I can't wait for what's next.

Just so this entry isn't completely heavy, here are pics of what E picked out for me (with Daddy's help, of course). I was topping off E before leaving on Saturday evening when D gave me this box!

This is what was inside

It's perfect. I love it. Just like E.

Friday Favorites: You La La!

Alternate title: How Naya Got Her Groove Back

I am a girly girl. I enjoy most of the stereotypical things that come along with being a girl. That includes frilly, lacey underthings. While navigating through the initial choppy waters of breast feeding, I made the sad realization that the majority of nursing bras are more functional than fun. There are fun bras, but they usually have a not-so-fun price. Luckily, a friend introduced me to You! Lingerie. Finally! Nursing bras that are functional, cute, and affordable!

Yes, that's right. Cute nursing bras. It was tough for this mama to feel like anything other than a cow for those first rough six weeks. The lack of sleep, near constant feeding, and 5 minute showers were really hard on me. I purchased the Berry Monroe and Rumi Noir bra and panty sets and couldn't wait for them to get here.

The bras and panties lived up to my expectations. They were comfortable, easy to use, and really really cute. The best part of receiving them is the handwritten thank you note in the box! I now own almost the entire collection and love wearing them every day. The Berry Monroe set is my favorite (most that know me well in real life know my love affair with leopard print!). They have certainly helped me feel more like my pre-pregnancy self. It's great to know that sexy yet functional nursing bras exist. I recommend them to every nursing mom and mom-to-be that I know.

If you're looking for a last minute Mothers Day gift, check out You! Lingerie. They're currently offering free shipping from now until Sunday May 8 - use code MOMFREESHIP

Happy Mothers Day to all my mamas out there!!
